We deserve Clean Air

We are Stephanie and Thomas, residents of Tower 2.

Like many of you, we enjoy living at Icon Brickell. We are reaching out to our fellow residents to ask for your support regarding the fragrance currently being dispensed inside our elevators.

Our concern is simple:

Should residents, visitors, and Icon staff have to inhale an added fragrance every time they use an elevator?

The elevators are small, enclosed spaces with limited airflow. The fragrance is released directly into this occupied space, with no where else to go but our lungs.

We have contacted both Icon Management and “Doctor Aromas”, the manufacturer of the fragrance and diffuser, to better understand what is being released into the elevators.

What we know

Doctor Aromas has confirmed that:

  • The elevators use an oil-based fragrance diffuser

  • The system is designed for smaller spaces, including elevators

  • The intensity can be adjusted depending on the size of the space and feedback from residents

However, we have also asked for additional information that we believe matters when a substance is intentionally dispersed into the air we all breathe, including:

  • A full disclosure of the fragrance ingredients

  • Recommended space size or volume for its use

  • Ventilation requirements for an occupied enclosed space

  • Recommended distance between the diffuser and occupants

The founder if Doctor Aromas has chosen not to provide this information!

Calling a fragrance “safe” does not necessarily mean that exposure is harmless or appropriate for every person. People have different sensitivities from Asthma, Chemical Sensitivities, Infants, Children and even pets.

And unlike choosing to use a fragrance in our own homes, we cannot choose whether to breathe the fragrance while using our building’s elevators.

This is not about eliminating cleanliness or having unpleasant elevators.

We are simply asking Management to find an alternative way to keep our elevators clean and fresh without continuously introducing fragrance into the breathing space of residents, visitors, and employees.

Many of us make conscious choices every day about our health and what we put into our bodies. We believe the air inside our home deserves the same consideration.

If this concern resonates with you, we would be grateful for your support in encouraging Management to explore a fragrance-free alternative for our elevators.

You also may support this by adding your name to the google document we share here.

A clean elevator does not need to be a scented elevator!

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
